Archives and museums have played an active role in colonization of Indigenous people across the world. elmiteskuatl was created from the examination of Two-Spirit material at the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Archives, comparing the collected resources with traditional ways of knowledge keeping, storytelling, and oral histories.
Bretten Hannam is a filmmaker of Mi'kmaw, Ojibwe, and Scottish ancestry based in Kespukwitk, Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia). His films deal with themes of community, culture, and tradition with a focus on Two-Spirit identity. He is a Fellow of the Praxis Centre for Screenwriters, Outfest Screenwriting Lab, and the Canadian Film Centre’s Screenwriting Lab.
elmiteskuatl is part of Atlantic Auteurs Program Two at HIFF 2018.
